The light above the normal button on the control panel started flashing along with the cancel light and washer will not run. Repowered and it stopped the flashing once. It did not work the 2nd time. The cancel light will stop flashing if you press the rinse button. I have had it apart and the ribbon cable looks good. The elec. board has a little heat from the component in the middle of the board. There is no tech sheet in the machine and I cannot open any of the servicematters links that I have found on other posts about similar problems. Looking for guidance.

    Mark,

You'll most likely need a new control panel / key pad assembly,

    Part number: AP3177369

    Part number: AP3177369

    But try this first,

Remove the key pad ribbon from the control board connector,

Clean the end of the ribbon off with alcohol, and re insert the ribbon, and put a thin coat of di electric grease or vaseline around the ribbon/ board connector.

    Reset the control board :

    HIGH TEMP
    (Power Scour)
    AIR DRY
    (No Heat Dry)
    (Energy Saver Dry)

    DIAGNOSTICS CYCLE SERVICE FEATURE –

    Press the above option keys

in the sequence shown, while the dishwasher is inactive, to run the Diagnostics Cycle.
This cycle may be rapid advanced, interval by interval, by pressing the

Pots&Pans/Heavy key, Antibacteria/Cookware key, or Start key.

(I normally allow the control to advance on it's own, no rapid advance.)

If the problem returns after 2 complete cycles, replace the panel.

PROBLEM: WON'T RUN AND LED ABOVE KEY(S) IS BLINKING

    Stuck key(s) or shorted

    circuit(s) in keypad.

Shorted circuits or connections on the control that reads the keys.

    1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.

    2. Check/replace control

    Good Luck,

    :) :) :)

The normal light on our Kitchen Aid dishwasher started blinking and it would not run. Pushing buttons on the control panel did not help. If you have someone who knows something about electronics this is what worked
      1. Disassembled the front door and separate the outer from the inner parts - DO NOT remove the two short screws near the bottom on each side that hold the inner part of the door to the closing mechanism. To completely remove the outer part of the door, disconnect the ribbon cable from the black plastic box containing the electronics. To do this press the small button/tab to remove the ribbon cable from the black box.
      2. On the inside of the control panel, where the ribbon cable connects, remove the black plastic cover [that is different from the black plastic box with the electronics. It is almost flat. We got it off o.k, but it is not easy and you may have to "destroy" it off [it is not important]. When you get the black cover off you will see that the ribbon cable is not directly connected to the control panel. Gently disconnect the ribbon cable from another, second, short piece of ribbon cable that goes to the control panel. The short piece of ribbon cable is part of the control panel and cannot be disconnected from the control panel.
      4. Unplug and plug in where the large ribbon cable connects to the shorter one several times (this cleans things up).
      5. Put it back together - ours worked fine.

Apparently, either the point where the large ribbon cable connected to the black plastic box with the electronics or where it was connected to the shorter ribbon cable did not have a good connection and was open.

Good luck. Took some time but worth the price of new parts or a new dishwasher.

Raad, a better and longer lasting repair is to use electrical contact cleaner and spray and clean both connectors using a tooth brush. Once it's all cleaned and dried out, seat the connectors together and apply a thin coat of "Vaseline" over the connection and on the back of the connectors where the ribbon enters the connector. This will help to keep moisture and debris from entering the connector and promote a longer repair time span.
